Ballet
Ballet is a beautiful, graceful and classical form of dance. Ballet forms the basis for all other types of dance and is essential for any serious dance student, as it teaches poise, grace and body awareness like no other form of dance. At the Sylvera Dance School, we teach ballet to students aged from 3 upwards. Students follow the IDTA Grade syllabus and can take examinations up to Intermediate standard.
Tap
Tap is a percussive dance form which involves complicated rhythms and intricate footwork. It has its roots in clog dancing and Irish (hard shoe) dancing. Although quite difficult to master, once you have learnt the basics, you progress quickly into more complex and interesting work. At the Sylvera Dance School, we teach tap to students aged from 3 upwards. Students follow the IDTA Grade syllabus and can take examinations up to Intermediate standard.
Jazz
“Jazz Dance” is a term which covers all types of modern style dance. It can be known as modern jazz, commercial jazz or even freestyle. Our classes cover a little bit of everything, and at Sylvera our jazz classes put the FUN into Funky!!! We do not follow an examination syllabus but we really teach you to dance and perform a variety of jazz based styles.

Annual Show

Each July we stage our show at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford.

Teachers

Over the 60 years since we started, we have produced many qualified teachers, some of whom teach for us and some have built up their own schools. We prefer to employ teachers we have trained ourselves as we know that they teach correctly and that they will endeavour to teach students in a way that they have always been taught at Sylvera. All of our teachers are qualified associates of the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association). Assistant teachers are always our own students who are studying for their qualifications.
